Independent Bookstores

Independent bookstores are a principal cornerstone of our democracy. Sadly, they're all under constant pressure from the corporate giants who dominate book publishing & book distribution in today's economy.

But we need not simply hand our country's book business over to the chain stores & e-marketers. Any of the bookstores listed here can find you most any book, & have it available within a few days' time. Dealing with them is just as convenient as dealing with mega-marketers; & many will go the extra mile to dig up hard-to-find, out-of print items that are not available in the big dealers' current inventories.

Best of all, an independent bookstore is a fun place to hang out & browse, & to talk about books with other readers & knowledgeable staff. Many of them regularly bring well-known writers to town to talk about their work & sign copies of their books for those who buy them. If we've missed a great independent bookstore in your town, please click on the bottom right of this page, send us its name and/or URL, & we'll post it!
